Hi all,

Room 2 have worked very hard at their reading this year and have made excellent progress with their fluency, comprehension, articulation and vocabulary skills. We engaged in Guided Reading, Reading Buddies with 5th class and D.E.A.R time (Drop Everything and Read) on a regular basis.  To continue this fantastic progress I have provided links with some guided reading questions you can ask your child before, during and after reading their library book. Broaden your child’s vocabulary by discussing new and interesting words in the book, and encourage her to use these words when writing stories/diary entries over the summer. It is important to take the time to read with your child on a daily basis and discuss the book. Provide your child with the opportunity to read aloud to you every day. Please click the links below to view the list of general comprehension questions.

Also, one of the best ways to nurture an interest in reading is by making sure that the books your child is reading on their own are suitable for their ability. The five finger rule (linked below) is a quick and easy way for you and your child to check if a book is suitable for them read on their own.
