The Board of Mgmt of Belgrove Senior Girls’ in conjunction with the Parents’ Association of the school are seeking your help in upgrading the pupil playground within the school.
The current yard has reached its end of life and we wish to overlay the current deteriorating tarmac with a shock absorbption pad and colourful artificial grass to make our school yard a more child friendly and safer playing environment for all our pupils. Both the BoM and PA believe this investment will be a fantastic asset to our school and a wonderful resource for our pupils both now and for years to come.
Benefits of the project include:
Enhance Safety
The addition of a built-in bounce pad coupled with a layer of artificial grass provides a safer surface for our pupils to play on, reducing the risk of injuries from falls compared to hard tarmac or concrete. This is particularly important in a school environment where active play is encouraged.
Improve Aesthetics and Engagement
A bright, colourful play area can create a more stimulating and inviting environment for children. This can boost pupil mood, encourage physical activity, and promote imaginative play, all of which contribute to their overall well-being and development.
Long-term Durability and Low Maintenance
Artificial grass is weather-resistant and requires minimal upkeep. With a guaranteed lifespan of 20+ years, this makes it a cost-effective investment compared to our current aging yard that will benefit the school for years without frequent repairs.
FAQs
As a green school, why are you using an artificial product?
The grass selected for use in the project is made from 80% recycled material. Produced in the E.U. the selected grass is both eco-friendly, pet friendly and child friendly. Furthermore the bouncepad used beneath the grass is made from 100% recycled materials.
By placing this product on top of the current yard it reduces the requirement of tarmac being dug up and removed to landfill.
Can I get tax relief from this donation?

Were many different surfaces considered?
Yes, other surfaces were considered such as Poured-in-Place (PIP) Rubber, interlocking Rubber Tiles and new tarmac. However, based on the element of customisation, coupled with the price, safety features and overall price, the selection of artificial grass coupled with a bounce pad was considered the optimal option.
Furthermore, the product chosen exceed Head Injury Criteria and has been tested to BS EN1177 (testing of impact absorbing surfaces)
How was this company selected?
5 companies who provide artificial grass were requested to tender for the project. A scoring matrix was established for the 5 companies selected and a winner selected based on overall criteria.
Are there other capital projects projected to require similar support in the next few years?
No. This is on the only capital project the BoM is focused on in the short to medium term.
Will the new surface, when complete, be level or following current dips and troughs?
What maintenance is required?
The product is practically maintenance free and only requires a powerwash once per year. The grass has a long-life expectancy of 20+ years and is non-slip, non-fade and non-stain.
