Green Girls 2020

Below is the list of Green Girls for this year 2020/21. Green Girls play an important role in maintaining our current flags and helping the school to work towards it’s next flag. Belgrove Senior Girls’ School currently holds five Green School flags. They are Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Travel and Biodiversity. Our school is due to work towards our next flag, Global Citizenship- Litter and Waste, but we have decided to put it on hold for this current school year and focus on maintaining our current flags. Girls are encouraged to reduce waste and recycle where possible. It is also fantastic to see so many girls and teachers walking, scooting, cycling and skateboarding to school this year. Maith sibh, and keep up the good work everybody! Due to government directed school closures in March, the Green School Committee did not get a chance to raise our 5th flag so we hope to do this soon with a small, socially distant ceremony.

SVP Giving Tree

A thuismitheoirí/chaomhnóirí,

Belgrove Senior Girls’ School continues to support the SVP Giving Tree appeal this year. We are calling on you once again to contribute to this very worthy appeal. Although we will have our Giving Tree setup in the School Corridor to promote the SVP Virtual Toy appeal, unfortunately we will be unable to collect gifts through the school.

Please see below how to contribute to the SVP Virtual Christmas Food and Toy Appeal.

Thank you so much for thinking of SVP and the people we help at this time of year. So many things will be different for us all this Christmas but some things like presents under the tree and a festive dinner need to stay the same.

Due to the Coronavirus restrictions, we have had to make some changes this year. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept donations of physical toys and food, as we cannot guarantee we would be able to deliver them safely to families in time for Christmas.

But this year, more than ever, we still need your help to make sure that children and families have what they need to share in the magic of the season. We are asking people to support families by taking part in our Virtual Gift or Food Appeal.

Virtual Gift Appeal

To take part in our Virtual Gift Appeal, you can go to the SVP website and buy a voucher for someone that can be used in your local community. Just select who you would like to buy the voucher for and the area you’d like it to be used in.

We are partnering with the Irish company Me2You Gift Cards, who will be providing the vouchers that can be used across a wide range of retail outlets.

Maths Week 12-16 October 2020

This week (12th-16th of October) we are celebrating Maths Week in Belgrove Senior Girls’ School. There will be lots of fun Maths activities taking place around the school, including tables competitions, Maths games, Maths Art and a competition between classes to see who can come up with the best Maths door. There will be a trophy awarded to the class with the most creative door so it’s serious business! For more information about Maths Week and to find some fun puzzles to try at home visit https://www.mathsweek.ie/2020/parents-page/ .

Here are some top tips for parents to help foster a love of Maths in their children.

  1. Encourage drawing whenever you can, especially when it comes to problem solving.
  2. Use concrete materials. Get the dried pasta or buttons out! Concrete materials can be especially useful when a new concept such as division or multiplication has been introduced.
  3. Encourage children to work on problems that are challenging to them. Ask them to talk you through their strategy for solving the problem.
  4. Try introducing your child to fun Maths puzzles.
  5. Play lots of Maths games. These can be on the computer, tables games in the car, or simple dice games.
  6. Try to always have a positive attitude towards Maths.
