Telling the Time

Telling the time is tricky! In 3rd class the girls learn to tell the time in 5 minute intervals using both the digital and analogue clocks. They will also learn to:
• Tell the time on analogue and digital clocks, using 5 minute intervals
• Calculate the time elapsed/duration between two given times
• Given a time, figure out what the time would be _ minutes earlier or later.
Here are some online games that you may find helpful for practising this topic:

Telling Time

http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/hickoryDickory/

These websites have been tried and tested for suitability and are great fun for all the family! But as always please monitor your daughter carefully while using the Internet .

The best way for your daughter to learn how to tell the time is by using it. Draw reference to the time throughout the day and ask her questions about it. Ask what time will it be in 1 hour/2 hours etc.

Here is a template to make a clock at home to help:

Have a great TIME trying them out!

Lent

Lent

Lent is the forty days before Easter. It reminds us of the forty days Jesus spent in the desert before he began his work of teaching and healing.

Pancake Tuesday

In the Middle Ages, Lent was a time of fasting. This meant that people went without such food as meat, eggs and cream. On the day before Lent began, they used up all the fats in the house by making pancakes and enjoying the kinds of food they would go without until Easter. This is how the tradition of Pancake Tuesday began.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday or Céadaoin an Luathrigh, the first day of Lent. It is a day of fast and abstinence.

During Lent we do as Jesus did when he was in the wilderness. We pay more attention to God who is always with us, we pay more attention to other people.

Ash Wednesday gets its name from a custom which began in the sixth century when Gregory was pope. The ash which we use on Ash Wednesday comes from burning the palms used on Palm Sunday last year. It is placed on our foreheads in the sign of the cross while the following words are said “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel”.
