A special buíochas mór to our 4th class choir who sang in St. Anthony’s Church, conducted by Mrs. MacNamee. Thanks also to Mrs. Daly and Ms. Walshe for their preparation of the choir. Buíochas to Ms. Aoife Foxe who was the organist. It was a very moving, special occasion for the girls and their families. Buíochas to Fr. Pat McManus, St. Gabriel’s Church, Fr. Larry White, St. Anthony’s Church, Fr. Martin Hogan, St. John’s Church and Deirdre McDermott our Pastoral Worker. The Parents’ Association provided tea/coffee and drinks for the girls and their families in the School Hall after the ceremony – hope you enjoyed the cuppa and went on to have a thoroughly enjoyable day! Buíochas freisin to the parents who helped organise the planting of the flower pots and to those who helped decorate the churches for the occasion.
Confirmation
On Thursday 21st May the 6th class girls will receive their Confirmation. The 5th classes, who form the choir, are very busy practising for the service under the guidance of Mrs. Murray, helped by the 5th class teachers Mrs. Joy, Ms. O’Connell and Ms. Brodie. Mrs. Murray is also very busy rehearsing with our Instrumental Group: Eimear Gibson, Grace Gray and Keila Winters.
Weaving
Laura Mulligan, a former Belgrove pupil, and currently a student of Visual Merchandising & Display at DIT visited Fourth Class in Room 9 during the month of March. She gave the girls cardboard looms to produce individual weaving creations. They also used a huge loom that Laura built especially to create a class blanket. Laura used this work to create a beautiful display at Avoca shop in Malahide in April, as part of her college project.
Scéalaí
Paul Timoney, storyteller, poet and artist visited 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes over two days, just before the Easter holidays. He entertained and delighted students and teachers alike with his energy and enthusiasm. Many thanks to the Parents’ Assocation for their generous funding of his visit.
Gairdín na Scoile
The 4th class girls have been weeding and digging “amuigh faoin aer” and hope to plant up the beds next week. The girls will continue to maintain the bed. We look forward to the harvesting in September! The two stone benches purchashed by the Parents’ Association are now in situ and add to the overall beauty of the garden.

Rugby
Recently retired Irish rugby captains Fiona Coghlan and Brian O’ Driscoll are both past pupils of Belgrove Schools. The four schools have invited Fiona and Brian to visit us on the 4th of June to mark their achievements and to inspire our current pupils to be the best that they can be. Both players will visit all the schools and the children will have an opportunity to meet them. A representative from each class will ask a question of the stars at our assembly in the hall. We are collecting €1 / €2 euro donation for the IRFU Charitable Trust (rugby players’ injury fund) on Wednesday 20th May. This is totally voluntary. We will make a presentation to this charity on behalf of the four schools in honour of Fiona and Brian when they come to the schools on June 4th. The girls will be allowed to wear green on this special day.
Fundraising
Come dine with me – Míle buíochas to the parents who have held very successful and I hope, thoroughly enjoyable evenings. To date €674 has been raised!!

TUSLA (Educational Welfare Services Child and Family Agency)
Established 01/01/2014
It is a requirement for schools to report absences of 20 days or more to TUSLA which now incorporates the National Education Welfare Board (NEWB). Under this arrangement, we must also categorise the reason for each absence, hence the importance of sending in a written note to the Class Teacher explaining why your daughter has been absent, on every occasion. The absence note should be on a separate page, and not in your daughter’s homework journal, because the Class Teacher will have to retain it for reference. There are four reporting periods in the year with reports for period 2 (end-Dec.) and Period 4 (end of school year) being mandatory. Please note that reports are cumulative from the start of the school year. As a matter of courtesy you will be notified in writing if your daughter is recorded on the Student Absence Report Form. Please see www.tusla.ie for further details.
- Holidays during term are not encouraged. Neither is it the policy of the school to set ‘holiday work’ for pupils. Attendance at school is very important and the work of the school continues right up to the end of June each year. If family holidays during term time are unavoidable, please inform your child’s Class Teacher in writing, in advance of the proposed absence from school.
